Gibson Les Paul
Gibson's Les Paul is a solid body guitar that was developed in the early 1950s by Ted Mc Carty the owner of Gibson and approved by jazz pop artist Les Paul. It was developed to 'cash in' on the new electric guitar market that had been popularlised with guitars such as Fender's Telecaster.
There has been a bit confussing and debate in the past about who contributed what to the Les Paul, with Gibson claiming that Les Paul helped out in two areas, he consulted on the trapeze tailpiece and he also chose the Gold colour - as it "looked expensive" and the second colour was black as it apparently made your fingers look like they were moving faster than they are - the black was also referred to looking classy like a tuxedo.
Artists such as Paul McCartney and Slash from Guns 'n' Roses both play Les Pauls.
Over 50 years later and the Les Paul is as popular as ever which a wide range of models, colours and specifications available on the market today - with Gibson's Les Paul's vintage looks, with modern hardware.
