Gibson SG
The SG is a very popular, solid bodied guitar that was introduced in the early 1960s. It was first introduced to combat the decline in sales of the Gibson Les Paul model. Originally it used the 'Les Paul name', but as Les Paul didn't like the looks and design of the guitar his name was later removed and it was renamed the SG coming from the phrase Solid Guitar. The guitar took inspiration from the ever popular Fender Stratocaster model which it was made to compete with. The SG also had the advantage of lower production costs compared to the previous Les Paul. It was advertised as having the "fastest neck in the world" due to it having thin neck profile and virtually no heel.
Compared to a Les Paul, the SG generally has a shallower body which makes it lighter. SGs are mainly made of Mahogany with the Swamp Ash SG special being an exception. The standard SG and standard LP both share components, such as their twin humbuckers that have dedicated tone and volume controls.
Artists from famous bands such as The Yardbirds, Jethro Tull, T.Rex and Cream all have used the SG model. Arists such as Tony Iommi, Chuck Berry, Noel Gallagher and Eric Clapton have all played with SGs.The SG Special is one of Gibson's best selling guitars and remains a popular line. It has twin cutaways and pointed horns which has made it an influential design. This model is manufactured in Nashville, TN out of Mahogany and has 22 frets.
The SGs design has been in production since 1961 and became an instant classic. This model is a 6-String SG Guita with Chrome Hardware, Cream Neck Binding, Trapezoid inlays and 490R and 409T Alnico Humbucker Pickups.
