Ibanez RG Series
The RG series was named after Ibanez's original name, Roadstar Guitar and this series boasts the most varieties of models of any series of guitars. This range of guitars were produced by Hoshino Gakki and some critics have said how they were his best range. They were based upon the JEM and Universe series which were created by Steve Vai. There is a popular misconception that Rocky George (Suicidal Tendencies/Fishbone) designed the RG, this is wrong, All the guitars in this range feature 24 fret slim necks and the majority of them can perform high tremolos.
For professional guitarists the RG prestige series are a more popular choice, but for new comers the RG is great due to its high quality and entry level price. These guitars are made in counties such as Japan, China, Korea and Indonesia and have a price to quality ratio similar to any of the big brands.
This range of guitars were first released in 1987 and over two decades on they are still going strong, being some of the world's most popular hard rock and metal guitars. The RG321s set up provides heavy rock musicians with the hard edge tone, sustain and power that they need. This is due to its mahogany body, duel humbucker pickup array and by having a fixed bridge. The guitar's body and neck make it look impressive for stage performances.
Ibanez made this guitar after many metal players demanded the ease of a fixed bridge when the previous guitar only had a double locking bridge.
This has been called "the world's premier metal axe" and with the models thru-model stringing it can provide a tighter string tension for simplicity and increased sustain.
